November 6, 2009 Southern California DUI Sobriety Checkpoint Schedule

Tomorrow night, November 6, 2009, four Southern California DUI sobriety checkpoints are set to operate.

With respect to the first, the Palm Springs Police Department will reportedly conduct a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location within in the city. The location and exact time will be announced just prior to the DUI checkpoint’s operation.

With respect to the second, the Escondido Police Department will operate a DUI / driver’s license checkpoint between 6:00pm and 1:00am.

As for the third, the Lake Elsinore Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint between 6:00pm and midnight.

Finally, the Moreno Valley Police Department will operate a sobriety / driver’s license checkpoint between the hours of 6:30 and 1:00am. Weather and traffic permitting, the police intend to stop every car that passes through the checkpoint.

California DUI law requires that the public is informed of DUI sobriety checkpoints. However, there is no requirement for the law enforcement agency to provide an exact location. Some choose to, some don’t. If/when they do, it usually isn’t disclosed until the last minute.

This fact further supports our contention that the sole purpose of a DUI roadblock is to arrest drunk drivers, rather than to deter them, as the court would have us believe. If deterrence was truly the issue, there would be no reason to keep the location of sobriety checkpoints a secret.
